IDENTITY AND AMBIGUITY (2015)

This project deals with the perception of the Arabic woman wearing her burqa.

The tradition of covering the hair and the body of the woman and keeping her in this state till she gets married  in order to be preserved for her future husband  transforms her in one way or another to a sexual tool. Thus she becomes a sexual object belonging to her husband. But, under that black covering, every woman has hidden desires inside her.
Let’s imagine what may be hidden under this burqa. In general, the covered person is expected to be a woman. However, it could be also a man, or even two men, or two women, or a woman and a man, or a woman and a child. A thief could be under this covering too, hiding stolen items. In our present days, there are women who even hide explosives. What does this woman look like? Is she beautiful? Ugly? Sexy?
