CRAMOND ISLAND (2014)
Cramond Island, in Gaelic ‘Eilean Chathair Amain’, is an island found on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Every day there is a moment in which the tide goes out, giving way to a long tongue of sand which joins the island to dry land once more. During the low tide, a transitory landscape is created in this space, accessible only during those few hours in which the sea, attracted by the lunar gravitational pull, uncovers it.
From my experience of visiting this place time and time again, I was inspired to create an installation that might recreate the idea of an island through an ideal mapping, made up of temporary details, as fickle as the landscape itself.
