ORLANDO: IN BETWEEN (2016)

Based on a performance staged to express the experience of finding myself on the edge between two genres, the triptych shows a mummy/cocoon poised between two polarities and in some points fragments of body which act in a disjointed and conflictual manner. In an undefined space, a body bereft of physiognomy moves, on one hand suspended between a no-longer and a not-yet, and on the other hand torn to pieces by two contrasting forces.

The work is part of the series Orlando, a collection that draws inspiration from my gender transition process, from the novel by Virginia Woolf Orlando. A Biography and from Queer Studies.

My research, despite starting out from a study on the psychological processes and the social and cultural issues caught up in the gender transition pro- cess, aims to go beyond the specific theme so as to reference a wider range of meanings linked to the dynamics of the inner self.

ORLANDO: THE ORIGIN (2014-2015)

“The heart can’t go on in sinking dragged by its weight, that weight that overwhelms it when it can’t hold up anymore, it can’t stop sinking indefinitely without getting lost. 

The heart gets lost and it becomes unique and more than ever we seek it. And when it appears again it brings something as offer in a sort of  annunciation. For he announces something, announcing again its presence. And therefore a transformation is produced, a new start even though it is the same, as from the beginning”

The work is the symbolic representation of the inner journey of interrogation of my body in relationship with my gender identity: the acknowledgement of social conditionings, the fall into fears, the anger, the regain of my most profound and original feeling.

With this work I try to move the attention from the gender as an external phenomenon to the inner process that lays the foundations for gender identity.
