Simon Njami is a Paris-based independent curator, lecturer, art critic and novelist. He was the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Revue Noire, a journal of contemporary African and extra-occidental art. Njami has served as artistic director of the Bamako photography biennale for ten years. He co-curated the first African pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007. Njami has curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art and photography, including Africa Remix (2004/2007) and the first African Art Fair, held in Johannesburg in 2008. His new exhibition, The Divine Comedy, started a world tour at the MMK (Museum fur Moderne Kunst) in Frankfurt in 2014 and proceeded to the SCAD Museum of Art (Savannah, USA) in 2014 and The Smithsonian Museum of African Art (Washington DC, USA) in 2015. He is director of the Pan African master classes in photography, a project he conceived with the Goethe Institute, artistic director of the Donwahi Foundation in Ivory Coast, advisor to the Sindika Dokolo Collection, and the secretary of the specialized jury of the World Press photography awards.
