Fabiani

Francesca Fabiani, curator, is Head of Photography Department of Architecture’s Museum at MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, Rome (Italy). She is in charge of acquisitions, exhibitions, commissions and research projects.

She studied Art History  at Università La Sapienza in Rome and  moved into photography in 2003.

From 1990 has curated and organized a number of exhibits on Art, Architecture and Photography for public and private institutions, as Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Roma; Biennale di Venezia; Festival dei Due Mondi, Spoleto; CIVA, Centre International pour la Ville, l’Architecture et le Paysage, Bruxelles; Académie de France, Rome, Instituto Moreira Salles, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

Most recent exhibitions: “Luigi Ghirri. Pensare per immagini”, MAXXI april 2013; “Pieter Hugo. Permanent Error”, MAXXI november 2011; “Paola De Pietri. TO FACE”, MAXXI may 2012.

She published essays and articles and curate catalogues on photography, as among these: Luigi Ghirri. Pensare per immagini. Icone Paesaggi Architetture (Milano 2013); MAXXI Cantiere d’autore. Racconto fotografico, (Milano 2010); Atlante italiano007. Rischio paesaggio (Milano 2007); and, recently the complete catalogue of the Photography MAXXI Collection Fotografia. MAXXI Architettura. Fotografie. Le collezioni (Milano 2010). She also the author of Hendrik Christian Andersen. La vita, l’arte, il sogno (Gangemi Editore, Roma 2003).

She held conferences on museum’s collection, promoting and protecting photography, acted as jury member or nominator for competitions and awards and as Portfolio’s reviwer in PhotoFestival. She’s also tutor at Fondazione Fotografia, Modena.

She lives in Rome.
